F.Clerke , Royal Exchange . Grande Sonnerie

A Large gilded , pinched corner , gorge case , Grande Sonnerie Carriage clock with Alarm in very original condition with a large top glass to view the original Bi-metallic , split , jewelled lever escapement . Signed on the dial F.Clerke Royal Exchange , London who were the retailers of the clock and were accomplished British clockmakers , this clock was made for them in Paris by Henry Lepine and has the H.L. stamp to the movement front plate . Gong striking on the Hour and with Grande Sonnerie you also have the quarter , half and three-quarter strike on two gongs ' ting- tang ' following the hour strike . If you prefer you can choose petite sonnerie or silent by simply switching a small lever to the base . The movement is completely original and has been fully dismantled , serviced and polished . A fine Grande Sonnnerie Carriage clock from this well known maker and retailer of London who was working between 1863 - 1881 .It has bevelled glass , all of which are in superb condition .
