Repeat, Alarm. Carriage Clock

14 x 8 x 7cm

Well you don't see one of these very often! We last had a 'Gadrooned' gorge case carriage clock around 10 years ago and at that time, that was the first we had ever seen. Now we have a slightly superior one for sale as this one has push repeat and alarm function. The clock strikes the hours on a bell and has a half hour with a single blow of the bell. The case still retains the original gilding, slightly worn but looking bright and very attractive. Original 'Breguet' style hands, a white vitreous enamel dial showing Roman numerals and a fine, silvered and jeweled lever escapement engraved T.Martin & Co , 151 Regent Street. Another unusual feature of this clock is an engraved 'Slow - Fast' to the top bezel, helping with adjustment of timekeeping. For sale with a 2 year guarantee.

Early Carriage Clock

150mm x 80mm x 60mm

A fine and quite early carriage clock with an enamel dial showing Roman numerals and alarm setting sub-dial. The dial also has an engraved border, seen on many early carriage clocks. It also has a very unusual type of escapement with a chronometer style balance wheel and helical hair spring the balance cock has been beautifully engraved as well as the lever and escape wheel cocks. Striking the hours and half on a tuned bell and housed in a superb gilt, engraved case with a solid engraved rear door. Interestingly this clock bears no markings of the usual makers for the period but would say this looks very much like the early work of Moser or Henry Marc. Being a 'multi piece' case we can date this to around the 1840's. The gilding is the original. A very fine clock with a very fine escapement.

Miniature Timepiece 'Carriage Clock' by Margaine

80mm x 50mm x 40mm

A fine little carriage timepiece by the well known maker A. Margaine. The case is not the usual gilt but a Rhodium finish. It was silver/chrome plated originally around 100 years ago and only traces could be found when we dismantled the clock. We 'refreshed' it with the most precious of metals, Rhodium which has a similar appearance to silver but does not tarnish (Rhodium is currently 3 times the price of Platinum at $2750 an ounce!) This little timepiece is surprisingly rare and retains its original jeweled lever escapement. Viewing recommended!

Idrac Le Roy, Henri Jacot, Half Hour Sonnerie

160mm x 90mm x 80mm

Here we have something a little different, I will also say 'rare' as I do not believe you will see another clock quite like this ! Retailed by Idrac Le Roy , 22 Rue De Bouloi, Paris but made for him by Henri Jacot. This was most likely a special commission, Half hour sonnerie is silent on the quarter past and quarter too, but strikes the half hour with full grande sonnerie so there is no confusion at 12.30, 1 and 1.30, ingenious! If you depress the repeat button you get the full grande sonnerie on each quarter as expected. The clock strikes on two small early gongs. The mercurial gilding is very thick and still in remarkable condition. The glass is all original. The movement has been fully overhauled and with the addition of calendar and alarm make this quite an exceptional clock. The movement has a number stamp of 1866 which is also scratched on the underside of the escapement. The inside plate has the usual oval stamp of Jacot with the 1862 Medailles (see photos) for the London and Paris expositions which he was awarded the Bronze Medal. We would date this clock to around 1870 -75 .
