Longcase Clocks

Thomas Low of Dundee  1828

A fine flame mahogany Scottish longcase clock of 8 day duration, the case is one of the best we have seen, being not only the best figuring but also the panelling and carved decorations add to this superb case, the Hood is in the classic 'Broken arch' shape with carved Thistles just below the dial, the 12" painted dial features a calendar and seconds dial within the Roman numeral chapter ring, the movement is also a little better than average with a deadbeat escapement with maintaining power on the 'going' train.Thomas Low of 204 Overgate Street,Dundee is listed in 'Old Scottish Clockmakers 1453-1850' by John Smith as working in 1828.
