Carriage Clocks

E.Dent Carriage clock

A fine early carriage clock with an enamelled dial showing Roman numerals and the makers name E.Dent. Striking the hours and the half hours on a tuned bell and housed in a superb gilt 'one piece' case with hinged rear glazed door. The original lever escapement is the earlier type but with a Bi-metallic balance wheel and balance screws. Edward Dent made the ships chronometer which accompanied Charles Darwin on the H.M.S Beagle in 1831 and of course built the great clock of Westminster (or 'Big Ben' as it's known). A lovely little clock which will be ready soon...
