Robt Aitken of Galashiels - 1836
A flame mahogany Scottish longcase in the "Drumhead" design as they are known , of good proportions with a convex trunk door with the cushion moulding above and panelled base . A 12 inch original Painted or Japaned dial showing Roman Numerals for the Chapter ring with Seconds and Calendar within , signed to dial . The 8 day duration , weight driven movement is in superb condition and has been fully serviced . With seconds beat pendulum and strike on a clear Bell , Robert Aitken of galashiels is recorded in 'Old Scottish Clockmakers 1453-1850' by John Smith as working from 1836.
