Bracket Clocks

Middlecoat of Newington , SURRY.

 

A Broken Arch , single Pad Top , English Bracket clock with carrying handle and with a Double Fusee , 8 Day pull repeat Movement striking on a bell on the Hour and has a finely engraved Back plate with the name Middlecoat , Newington , Surry (old spelling of Surrey ) an enamelled Convex dial showing the makers name with the original pair of fine Blued steel Hands . The case is constructed in solid Oak with well figured thick Mahogany veneers , Fish scale frets backed with red silk , standing on Ball feet on a mahogany wall bracket . Wm Middlecoat of Newington is recorded working from 1730 - ref' Britton's Old Clocks and Watches. This clock would date circa 1785-95 . Viewing recommended .
