Joseph Durward Verge Bracket Clock

An exceptionally original Triple Fusee Bracket clock by this well known Scottish clockmaker , Joseph Durward of Edinburgh,Who was admitted a freeman clockmaker , Canongate Hammermen the 20th of October 1775 . and is known to have worked until 1819 . As listed in "Old Scottish Clockmakers" by John Smith . A full Brass dial with two subsidery dials to the arch and the name cartouche , all finely engraved . The matted center with silvered chapter ring and Calendar aperture . The sides with the original sound frets backed with silk , the movement having a complete , original verge escapement in exceptionally untouched condition . The backplate being engraved with the Latin inscription "Vive et Vivas " - which roughly translates to "Live and let live" and having an unusual pendulum and lock ,all beautifully engraved . Full Chimes on the nest of eight bells on the hours , halves and quarters . Viewing by appointment .
